Bihar Pay Matrix: Salary Structure Level 1-14 of Government Employees in Bihar

Various Vacancies in Bihar gets filled through BPSC, BSSC, CSBC, BTSC etc. organizations / commissions / boards. Those who got government job through these govt departments, gets salary as per Bihar Pay Matrix. This matrix is the official salary structure used for employees working in these departments. This Bihar Salary structure came into effect from October 2017 after the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission, but it has been customized by Bihar Govt to suit its administrative needs and budget provisions.

This Bihar Pay Matrix replaces earlier pay bands and grade pay system. It simplifies salaries into fixed Pay Levels defining starting basic pay, annual increments, and promotion benefits.
The Pay Matrix of Bihar includes multiple levels, ranging from Level 1 to Level 18, depending on the post and qualification required. Exact pay depends on the post, seniority, and department-specific policies.

Allowances in Bihar Government Jobs

  • Dearness Allowance (DA): Currently 53% of basic pay
  • House Rent Allowance (HRA): 10%, 20% depending on city/town classification
  • Medical Allowance
  • Transport Allowance
  • Other special pay (as applicable)
 

In-Hand Salary Calculation Example

Let’s take an example of a post in Level 4 with a starting basic pay of ₹25500.
  • Basic Pay: ₹25500
  • DA @ 53%: ₹13515
  • HRA @ 10%: (min.) ₹2550
  • Other Allowances: ₹2000-3000
  • Total Salary: ₹43000-45000 per month
  • Net In-Hand Salary: ₹39000–41000 per month

Some of the posts with their levels in Bihar:

Level 1 includes Group D posts i.e. Peon, Sweeper, Helper, Office Attendant etc. and level 2 includes Field Assistant, Clerk (LDC) etc. Staff Nurse posts that gets advertised by BTSC recently are of Level 7.  
  • Office Attendant & Equivalent: Level 1 GP 1800
  • LDC: Level 2 GP 1900
  • UDC: Level 4 GP 2400
  • Head Clerk, Supply Inspector: Level 6 GP 4200
  • Office Superintendent, Staff Nurse Grade A: Level 7 GP 4600
